Realizing that your family may need help can be scary but working with someone that specializes in helping children can make any parent feel more comfortable.
How I can assist you... Once you help me develop a clear picture of the nature of your concerns and the historical back drop, I will be able to help you better understand the psychological, social, and biological factors that are likely contributing to your concerns. I will also be able to identify any possible psychological conditions that maybe present. While understanding the factors that may foster your concerns will not eliminate them, you will be able to take some comfort in that this insight will tell us what work we have ahead to make acceptable progress. Next, guided by current science, years of clinical experience and your in-depth understanding of your child and family, we will develop a strategic plan that will give us the best chance to make appropriate progress on your concerns and possibly eliminate the concerns all together. Areas of intervention tend to focus on adjusting environmental factors, learning new ways to interact with and respond to your child, and helping your child build the needed skills to better modulate and understand their emotions as well as behaviors. Since presenting concerns manifest themselves across a number of environments including school, when desired and deemed appropriate I will be able consult with school staff to help them better understand your child’s unique concerns as well as how they could help your child have a better educational experience. This will help ensure that your child's academic and social potential is met. Tracking progress is important as this will help us know if treatment is working and to what degree. This will guide me in making needed adjustment to our approach and allow us to be mindful of new concerns that could arise as we intervene on presenting concerns. Once necessary progress is made we will begin to develop a plan to maintain our gains and begin to think about possible concerns that may arise in the future. By this time, you will likely have begun to develop a strong understanding of your child’s unique needs and the skills to intervene appropriately with less consultation. At this point we will begin to reduce our contact and shift to an as needed model of care. Last, I wish you well as you get out there, enjoy your family, and make lasting memories!! |
